Welcome :)
We are Anya Kassoff and Masha Sullivan, a mother and daughter living 1000 miles apart and exchanging recipes to keep in touch. We’ve been sharing our ideas about tasty and nourishing cooking and self-care here since 2010. We’ve written two plant-based cookbooks: The Vibrant Table (2014) and Simply Vibrant (2018), and our brand-new, vegan and gf desserts ebook Golubka Kitchen Sweets is out now. Here’s a comprehensive list of everything you can find on this blog:
Our Recipes
You can expect to find eight years’ worth of recipes that are always vegetarian, 99% vegan and sometimes raw here, with a focus on the most healthful and seasonally delicious ingredients. All the new recipes we post are almost exclusively plant-based, though we sometimes use honey and have used ghee in the past. We also frequently post step-by-step recipe videos and day-of-eating vlogs on our Youtube Channel.
* Many of our older recipes were translated to French, you can find all of them here.
Meal Plans
We post one vegan and gluten-free, week-long meal plan every season. The recipes in our meal plans always lean on seasonal produce + other whole food ingredients, and are conscious of budget and time. We also do Meal Plan Minis, which are less intense versions of our meal plans, usually centering around a single ingredient or idea.
Interviews
Eating well is a big part of self-care for us, but we are also interested in other aspects of that topic, so we interview people we admire about their self-care routines. We always get a major dose of inspiration from those.
About Us
Anya Kassoff
Born: Northern Caucasus, Russia
Living: St. Petersburg, FL
Zodiac: Libra, a typical one
Previously: engineering and dentistry, and lots of cooking after-hours, until realizing that cooking is the one and only true calling
Favorite food: latkes
Starting out: after the birth of my second daughter, Paloma (18 years after my first!), I ran into unexpected health issues and sought healing through a healthy diet (specifically raw), which helped me feel much better. I was very inspired by all the new culinary possibilities I was learning about and cooking constantly. Masha encouraged me to start a blog – the rest is history.
Masha Sullivan
Born: Northern Caucasus, Russia
Living: NYC
Zodiac: Capricorn, a typical one
Previously: college student while starting GK, now working part time in fashion design
Favorite food: chocolate
Starting out: I’ve always loved reading and cooking from food blogs. One day, the idea that my mom’s (Anya’s!) impressive cooking would make for a beautiful food website struck me, and I set up this page for her. I’ve had an interest in photography for a long time, being most drawn to still life, so food photography came quite naturally to me. Nowadays, I’m very passionate about it, although completely self-taught. If you’re interested in the equipment I use for the photos on this website, there is a breakdown here.
The Name
Golubka is Russian for dove and is a version of my (Anya’s) maiden name. My younger daughter’s name, Paloma, is ‘dove’ in Spanish, so it all intersects.
